About TAG

What is TAG?
TAG is an entry level, semi competitive program for girls who want a more challenging experience with the sport of gymnastics. Several small, local and state competitions are recommended as participation in this program.

How did TAG get started?
Several years ago, a small group of Oklahoma Coaches who were concerned that the USAG competitive programs were too extreme, got together and designed this program as a way to introduce intermediate level gymnasts to the wonderful sport of competitive gymnastics. They named it TAG because they wanted it to represent a program that was tagging after the USAG Jr. Olympic Program.  Now, every gym in Oklahoma participates in the TAG meets.  It's becoming more popular than USAG.

What level of experience, or reason do girls need to have, to join the TAG program?
The TAG program is made up of mostly intermediate level gymnasts. Girls that have participated in recreational gymnastics, and have shown to have some skill ability, are the most common group of girls that join the TAG program. Another common reason to join has been the need to be further challenged. The TAG staff is always looking for girls who might want an opportunity to tryout. Contact the office to schedule a tryout.

What's the difference between TAG and the USAG Program?
The biggest difference is time, commitment and philosophy. Unlike the USAG programs, TAG levels are restricted by the amount of hours per week they are allowed to practice (6 hours per week maximum). This restricted commitment keeps the TAG programs evenly matched throughout the state when they go to competitions. This is important because the TAG program wasn't designed to be a highly competitive program; rather it is intended to expose children to the joy of gymnastic competitions.

Do the TAG girls move up to USAG team at some point?

Yes. We use the TAG Program as a feeder program to our USAG Team. The USAG team coaches will periodically evauate the Level 4 TAG members for advancement.  Our TAG coaches and USAG coaches are trianed in the same techniques. This helps ensure a seamless transition from TAG to USAG Team.
